WebView turns grey on double-clicks near tab bar in Gmail

I was able to hit this in Colloquy today (for the first time). I can reliably
repeat it in Safari with Gmail, by double clicking right at the bottom of the
tab. I think it's a 1px boundary where a double click causes this bug.

I got this in Colloquy by double clicking trying to select text in the message
box.

Once the view turns grey (a disabled selection?) there is no way to turn it
back to normal colors.

I was told once that Chrome has a work-around for this bug. I'm not sure what
it is, but I'll ask around.
