Can you please collect a "sample" of Safari while it has hung?  You can do this
by running Activity Monitor.app, selecting the Safari item from the process
list, and clicking the "Sample Process" button on the toolbar.  Save the output
to a text file, and attach it to this bug.

I strongly suspect the sample will reveal the problem is within Safari itself
rather than WebKit, in which case this bug report will need to be moved to
Radar.
