No it does not work, 
when following your suggestion, it just goes to another search engine, not the 
preceding page that you chose to leave a second ago..... Right?

The command is
command - alt - arrow
i.e. 8 for back (Left arrow) 
 that should take you to the preceding page in your browsing history.
or 9 (Right arrow for forward, if you have any such
in your browsing history stack,
