[webkit-help] Layout calculation

Hi,

I am a newbie to webkit. When trying to understand layout calculation i see
that RenderBlock::layout is responsible from top level for layout.
My doubt is i see that width calculation is being done from top to bottom
and height for bottom to top(w.r.t renderTree in mind).

Can i know why this behaviour?
Like is it because any spec says so? or is there a logical reason behind it?
