Brent's advice seems good, you really should check all those things
before doing anything else. Like Brent said, some really weird things
can happen if certain things are missing or if line endings are wrong,
so that could be why you are getting inconsistent results.

I haven't rebooted into Windows since reading Brent's message, but I
suspect if I followed his advice I could finally get WebKit fully
building.
