For the white flickering maybe can be connected to this warning

(alexa:569443): Gtk-WARNING **: 12:04:15.960: gtkmm__GtkScrolledWindow
0x561dba7fc3b0 or a child called gtk_widget_queue_resize() during
size_allocate().
