It sounds like a bug to me, especially since it works if all is ASCII. 
I think it's already reported on WebKit Bugzilla somewhere, but I 
couldn't find it with a quick search -- good luck finding anything on 
there -- so unless somebody has a link, might be best to report a new 
one.
