I thought accelerated compositing and WebGL were entirely orthogonal
issues?

Martin says all the patches have bitrotted. Half of them have
unfortunately landed but not the other half; this is why we have a
very confusing, unused Wayland protocol under
platform/graphics/Wayland. We need to land these or else remove the
unused code that landed.
