It seems its not a problem with GIT, but with SVN ?
This simple SVN checkout on a new empty directory will fail:
$ svn co <a href="https://svn.webkit.org/repository/webkit/trunk/LayoutTests/http/tests/cache/">https://svn.webkit.org/repository/webkit/trunk/LayoutTests/http/tests/cache/</a>
output: <a href="http://sprunge.us/XffD">http://sprunge.us/XffD</a></pre>
