The maximum size of the canvas on iOS has been 4096x4096 since http://trac.webkit.org/changeset/185603; see bug 145998. The memory size of the iOS devices has increased significantly in these nine years. Also the jetsam limit on iOS has been raised. So we can safely double the limit on the canvas size on iOS.
