            Bug ID: 270962
Summary: Wrong favicon picked, giving blurry image
           Product: WebKit
           Version: Other
          Hardware: Unspecified
                OS: Unspecified
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: WebKitGTK
          Assignee: webkit-unassigned at lists.webkit.org
          Reporter: ossman at cendio.se
                CC: bugs-noreply at webkitgtk.org

Originally reported to Epiphany:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/epiphany/-/issues/1905

The issue was deemed to be in WebKit rather than Epiphany, so moving the report here.

Original description:

We've put a lot of effort in to providing a favicon that looks correct on all the browsers with all their different behaviours in this area. We now have something that works on every browser, except for Epiphany.

Epiphany seems to pick a large size from the .ico file, and then downscaling it, resulting in a blurry appearance.

Unfortunately, we have trouble debugging this as the favicon loading seems to be a bit magical. It isn't shown in the network inspector, and the "disable caches" setting doesn't affect it. Some debugging suggestions would be helpful.

Also note that Safari on macOS doesn't have this issue, so it seems to be something specific to Epiphany.
