I was able to reproduce this bug only on macOS Sequoia beta. I could not reproduce it on Sonoma.
To reproduce it,
1. I had to connect a MacBookAir/Sequoia to an external XDR display.
2. Then I showed the attached image in Safari on XDR display.
3. At the beginning the image was displayed with white background.
4. But after moving Safari window between the MacBookAir display and the XDR display, the background became gray.
5. Once the background became gray, this image (and possible other images) will be displayed always with gray background even after disconnecting the XDR display.
6. Restating the machine or reinstalling the OS did not fix the bug.
Also when opening the attached sample image in Preview, the image inspector says this info about it:
Color Model: Gray
ColorSync profile: Generic Gray Gamma 2.2 Profile
