Bug ID: 264440
Summary: CSS fade transition on a <span> causes clipping with
an italic font
Product: WebKit
Version: Safari 17
Hardware: Mac (Apple Silicon)
OS: macOS 14
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P2
Component: CSS
Assignee: webkit-unassigned at lists.webkit.org

A screenshot of the clipped text
Reproduction: https://codepen.io/johnnynoble/pen/wvNJQov
Expected: click 'fade out' and 'fade in' to trigger a CSS opacity transition. The transition occurs and the text fades in/out normally.
Actual: the italic text is clipped at the edge of its container until the transition ends.
