I see, this is specially true for the live image since it can't write to the disk and has to store more things than usual on RAM.
However if you install it to disk it should be enough with 1GB of RAM if you choose a lightweight desktop like XFCE or LXDE/LXQT

At any rate, once you start a browser and start loading a few websites 1GB of RAM is likely not enough for comfortable usage. The browser itself can use 1GB or more.
