Oh, sorry, forgot one more thing: when running yelp or epiphany - with or without WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 - on an affected system, these messages are printed to the console:

libEGL warning: failed to get driver name for fd 0

libEGL warning: MESA-LOADER: failed to retrieve device information

libEGL warning: failed to get driver name for fd 0

libEGL warning: egl: failed to create dri2 screen

these messages don't appear when running on a non-affected system (i.e. bare metal).
