Seems pretty clear from the code here https://github.com/WebKit/WebKit/blob/931edb0a5a560a009a8ca6a23f39aa4bff6d6a5a/Source/WebCore/page/EventHandler.cpp#L1900-L1915 that mousedown is not fired
