The standards ended up considering the BOM as the most authoritative piece of information. This is codified by the HTML and Encoding standards nowadays.

This is tracked by https://github.com/w3c/webrtc-pc/issues/2660 standards-wise.
How does OpenWebRTC parse it?
I agree that RTCPeerConnection::iceServersFromConfiguration doesn't robust in the face of how these URLs are parsed by the URL parser.
(Note that the cpp class and JavaScript class should behave equivalently. We don't want them to diverge.)

Message-ID:
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=254861
Bug ID: 254861
Summary: iPadOS: Viewport doesn't correctly restore after
dismissing software keyboard for installed web apps
Product: WebKit
Version: Safari 16
Hardware: iPhone / iPad
OS: iOS 16
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P2
Component: Layout and Rendering
Assignee: webkit-unassigned at lists.webkit.org
Reporter: ik at rejh.nl
CC: bfulgham at webkit.org, simon.fraser at apple.com,
zalan at apple.com
Created attachment 465722
--> https://bugs.webkit.org/attachment.cgi?id=465722&action=review
Screenshot of twitter web app after dismissing the keyboard
Reproduce:
1. On an iPad Mini (5th gen), go to twitter.com, install the web app to the home screen
2. Open the installed web app, log in, navigate to a DM / chat
3. Tap the message input on the bottom (the software keyboard pops up, pushing the page/viewport up
4. Dismiss the keyboard via the button in the lower right corner
Alternative:
The same issue can be observed in the testcase I made for another issue:
https://testcase.rejh.nl/webkit-safe-area-inset-does-not-update/
What happens:
The viewport jumps down, then back up to where it was before the keyboard was dismissed.
See attached screenshot (1, red).
See attachment.
Notes:
1. Elements with position: fixed *do* restore to the correct position (like the menu bar on the left) but it's only visually. Touch events still fire relative to the offset of the viewport. Example: After following the steps, tap the 'twitter' icon in the top left corner. It triggers a click event on the Bookmarks icon (which was positioned at that position when the keyboard was still visible). See screenshot (2, yellow)
2. The viewport jumps back to the correct position if you slightly scroll somewhere on the page - unless it has `overscroll-behavior: none (I assume this is because it prevents the scroll to bubble up to the root)
3. If the entire page (or element that fills the entire page) has `position: fixed`, everything *seems* to be in the correct position but touch events fire in the wrong place. Touch events in the lower part of the screen (where the keyboard was displayed) do not respond at all. This includes scrolling: the entire lower part of the viewport can not be scrolled.
4. When 2 and 3 are combined, it completely breaks the site. The only way to restore normal behavior is to re-open the keyboard and dismiss it via a tap somewhere in the document.
I'm not sure if all iPads are affected, I only have an iPad Mini (5th gen). iPad (10th gen) simulator works as expected. iPhone also unaffected. It only affects installed web apps, the same steps in regular Safari work as expected.

Screenshot comparison iPhone and Android devices
The ScreenOrientation.type and ScreenOrientation.angle values are different to the window.orientation value and also different to the values that Android devices are reporting in landscape mode (tested with iPhone and iPad).
Here a test-case and screenshots:
https://krpano.com/ios/bugs/ios164-screen-orientation/
This also affects multiple (non-updated) krpano-based virtual tours all around the world when using the gyroscope-control or using the VR-mode.
krpano used a Feature-check before using the Screen Orientation API, but didn't expect that iOS might introduced the API with a different behavior...

I think all ports use Harfbuzz except Apple ports. But this bug report is 10 years old, so it's no surprise that HarfBuzzShaper.cpp does not exist anymore.
I have no clue whether this bug is still a problem or not,

The file was removed in bug #167956, the patch moved some code around as
well, but from a quick glance at it I am not able to decide if the issue
is still there or not... I am far from knowing anything about HarfBuzz,
but maybe that serves as a starting point?

Message-ID:
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=254868
Bug ID: 254868
Summary: Incorrect height values when viewport-fit=cover is set
for installed web apps
Product: WebKit
Version: Safari 16
Hardware: Unspecified
OS: Unspecified
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P2
Component: Layout and Rendering
Assignee: webkit-unassigned at lists.webkit.org
Reporter: ik at rejh.nl
CC: bfulgham at webkit.org, simon.fraser at apple.com,
zalan at apple.com
Several css values and javascript APIs report incorrect height values for installed web apps when has "viewport-fit=cover".
The following values report heights of the available space *minus* safe-area-inset:
- 100svh
- -webkit-fill-available
- visualViewport.height
Note: It's very likely that this list is not complete, it's just what I ran into.
The workaround for CSS is fairly easy (but should not be needed):
```css
/* Use svh (with fallback for older versions) in regular safari: */
html, body {
min-height: -webkit-fill-available;
min-height: 100svh;
}
/* Switch to 'vh' when in standalone: */
@media all and (display-mode: standalone) {
html, body {
min-height: 100svh;
}
}
```
I'm not sure if there is a workaround for visualViewport.height though...

OpenWebRTC is no longer maintained. The corresponding backend was removed from webKit soon after the migration to libwebrtc was completed.
The WPE/GTK ports rely on a different backend, based on GstWebRTC.
In GStreamerMediaEndpoint::setConfiguration() we replace `stun:` with `stun://` (same for turn:) and pass the result to the WebKit URL parser. This is a workaround indeed :)

I think we're unable to reproduce because I fixed the web process crash bug #249689, but it's a bug if anything the web process does can cause the UI process to hang, so this bug should not be closed. To fix this bug, the UI process should not hang if bug #249689 is reintroduced.

A couple of other/additional observations, maybe this will help or they may be separate issues (let me know plz)
I've managed to mostly work around the issue by using the Visual Viewport API and resize the html and body via javascript. Weird thing is that I have to (re)register the listener every time the input is focused or it won't fire more than once:
1. On input focus: add a visualViewport 'resize' listener (it will fire almost immediately)
2. In the resize listener, set the height of html and body to match visualViewport.height, then scroll both to '0'.
3. On input blur: unregister the 'resize' listener and unset html and body height, then scroll both to '0'
The second thing I found out is that the document loses focus when I dismiss the keyboard using the dedicated button, at least according to the page lifecycle library I use (https://github.com/GoogleChromeLabs/page-lifecycle). This doesn't happen on iPhone, just on iPad (Mini, again, I don't have other devices to test this with). Scrolling doesn't re-focus it, I have to really tap something.

Ah just now noticed a typo in my example/workaround code.
For standalone display-mode, it should use 'vh' units as that does include safe-area-inset:
```
/* Switch to 'vh' when in standalone: */
@media all and (display-mode: standalone) {
html, body {
min-height: 100vh; /* <== should be 'vh', not 'svh'
}
}
```

@Alan - this Blink merge can be done in Legacy Inline Layout but if you have plan to take care of it in near future, I can hold-off. Else I can try local build and see if it fixes and then can do PR to fix this bug.

Subject: [Webkit-unassigned] [Bug 254724] Safari 16.4 Regression:
Keyboard-based scrolling behavior is nonsensical and un-mac-like
In-Reply-To:
References:
Message-ID:
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=254724
--- Comment #3 from Jonathan Deutsch ---
> - The previous keyboard scrolling feels arbitrary.
On macOS, arrow keys most typically correspond to a line scroll:
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/appkit/nsscrollview/1403490-verticallinescroll?language=objc
What represents a line is clearly a bit up for grabs in different views since this is a settable property, but from all my research Safari always scrolled by 40 pixels. This is anything but arbitrary.
By changing the behavior of the arrow key from scrolling a line to be based on the duration of a key press mapped to an easing function, this has become significantly more arbitrary as human control isn't perfect. The amount scrolled is dependent on contact time; users can no longer just tap an arrow key to get a fixed amount of scroll.
While I do agree that sometimes the static 40px is too much or too little for a given page that may vary in line height, this change does not really fix that problem anyways, because scroll speed is still independent of any units of content on the page.
> - The previous keyboard scrolling is slow.
As you suspected, the key repeat rate and delay until repeat settings in the System Preferences Keyboard Pref Pane actually would control both the speed and the time before repeat gets enacted. Now there's no customizability.
It is opinionated (and page-dependent) to say that scrolling is fast or slow. The new change is fixed, so it is a regression on the axis of at least being able to set the speed that you want.
(IIRC Windows also has an autoscroll feature from pressing the scroll wheel button that allowed for controlling scroll speed as an example of a high-level solution to constant smooth scrolling)
> - The previous keyboard scrolling is janky.
> - The previous keyboard scrolling is jarring.
This change is not the only viable solution. See that Chrome still respects fixed line scroll on arrow taps but it uses a fast animation to make the transition a bit jarring.
Further, a solution could be that one the "key repeat" timing kicks in, the scroll could be continuous but linear to stop immediately when the arrow key is released. (Only a viable solution if all of macOS adopted such a behavior)
> - Rubber banding is good.
I recommend playing with page-up/page-down a bit if you haven't, as even if rubber banding to indicate the end of a document is reasonable, the current behavior is definitely problematic. Page-up/page-down doesn't always rubber band, and when it does it transfers excessive momentum. See my notes above.
=======
> you're taking the way you use Mac for granted
The Mac has been around for 39 years... so yes? What makes macOS special compared to other OSes is that its UI is consistent which means usage is intuitive across a wide range of apps. So when there's inconsistency, it should be treated like a bug. Exceptions should be exceptional.
> assuming little thought was put into the major rework
I never said this. Of course, even if a lot of thought is put into something doesn't mean it is the optimal solution, or immune to feedback about it. In my career I've been responsible for pulling plenty of features that didn't hold up to real world usage (and yes, in the same org as WebKit :)).
> I strongly disagree that it's an outright "regression" and that there is no merit
I never said there was no merit, but I did outline problems with the new method. I said it was a consistency and accessibility regression. The linear parts of the smoothness look nice.
=======
Time-based manipulation is common in video games where reflex is often part of the game, but does not make for great UI in the most popular application on macOS. "Humane" UI is based on providing precision control which amplifies human strengths and diminishes human weaknesses across a broad spectrum of the population. This is why direct manipulation (via trackpad scrolling) works so well, and also why keyboard button presses corresponding to a specific action (line or page scroll) historically work great.

Safari Technology Preview 166 is totally different behavior in this test case.
Type in text area and then "tab" and it shift focus to address bar and then shift-tab focus it back to "start of text" in the textarea rather than the last caret position.
So two issues:
1) Focus issue and not being able to go to "button"
2) Return does not going back to where our "caret" was before in the textarea
________
This commit in Blink fixed it - https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src.git/+/281b9124b31f6aa3c8030f06d25bef969c3964d5
In WebKit Source - https://searchfox.org/wubkat/source/Source/WebCore/html/HTMLTextAreaElement.cpp#211
________
I am not super familiar with the code so if someone else want to fix it. I am happy they take the lead.
I am changing it to "New" and also changing from "New Bug" to "UI Event" and CCign some WebKit engineer (Aditya & Ryosuke) to give their input.
Thanks!

generate and generateThreadSafe use separate counters, so mixing usage will results in collisions.
We can make this a template parameter instead, and prevent mixing at compile time.

In bug 254755 I discovered the HTML parser directly depends on MathML (and has to). While I suppose some other things could still be conditional, the current setup won't compile if this is not enabled. (My fix for bug 254755 might help with that by at least making the names always part of the build, if someone still cares about optionality.)

Assuming people review bug 254755 as a favorable change, we should consider doing the same for SVG tag names. Source/WebCore/dom/make_names.pl has a generic capability to create adjustXTagName where X can be any language, but we only need it for SVG, only in the HTML parser, and only for the tag names the HTML Standard lists (which should be a fixed list for eternity).

Summary: iPadOS: window loses focus when dismissing the
keyboard, breaks Page Lifecycle API
Product: WebKit
Version: Safari 16
Hardware: Unspecified
OS: Unspecified
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P2
Component: UI Events
Assignee: webkit-unassigned at lists.webkit.org
Reporter: ik at rejh.nl
** Short description: **
On iPadOS, the window.blur event fires when the software keyboard is dismissed via the dedicated button (bottom right corner).
** Reproduce: **
1. On an iPad Mini (5th gen), open twitter log in and open a DM / chat
2. Connect with dev tools and paste the code below (logs focus and blur events to console)
2. Tap the message input at the bottom of the chat UI
3. Dismiss the keyboard using the dedicated button (bottom right corner)
The same steps can performed on this testcase I built for another issue (plz ignore the included steps ;))
https://testcase.rejh.nl/webkit-safe-area-inset-does-not-update/
** Code snippet: **
```
// Log focus and blur events to console
function log(eventName) {
return (event) => console.log(eventName, event.target === event.currentTarget, event.target);
}
window.addEventListener('focus', e => log('focus')(e));
window.addEventListener('blur', e => log('blur')(e));
```
** What happens: **
The window.blur event fires. This may be problematic for sites using the Page Lifecycle API (https://developer.chrome.com/blog/page-lifecycle-api/) to determine the state of the page.
- Scrolling the page does not restore focus
- AFAIK you can't do it programatically (window.focus() does not, in face, focus the window)
- Tapping somewhere in the page does restore focus.
** Additional notes: **
1. I have only been able to reproduce this on my iPad Mini. I don't have an actual iPhone to test with at the moment, but I have noticed that the 'Done' button on iPhone behaves differently from the button on iPadOS. iPhone and iPad simulator seem to behave as expected (no window.blur event).
2. It seems that there are a number of bugs related to the software keyboard, especially on iPadOS:
- iOS: safe-area-inset-bottom still set when keyboard is open: https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=217754
- iPadOS: viewport doesn't correctly restore when dismissing keyboard: https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=254861
Would be great to see this area getting some attention

Just ran into a similar issue, but in my case it's reliable for installed web apps but not in regular safari. Sadly, attempts to write a simplified testcase result in correct behavior so can't help in that regard.
Wrapping the code in the resize listener in a 'before next paint' (double rAF) fixes it - so similar to the OP's setTimeout workaround.
Is it possible that the visualViewport resize event sometimes fires too soon or the height calculation happens too late ?

According to MDN, calling setAppBadge() with no arguments or '0' should display a badge without a number.
Instead, both setAppBadge() and setAppBadge(0) will show no badge (or remove it if it was called with a number before)
Relevant MDN documentation:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Navigator/setAppBadge#parameters
(Wasn't sure which component this belongs to so I chose 'New Bugs')

So the issue is that OpenBSD does not have evenfd so we are using epoll-shim (external library) instead which already comes with its read definition.
Which this local patch, epoll-shim does not taint the rest of the unified code and allows the build to succeed.
Sorry for the noise.

Almost nothing in the web platform does this. If we need to do it somewhere it would be better if the caller handled it on its own. The default of NFCNormalize::Yes seems a little worrisome.
