I think Google Mail (Gmail) has evolved a lot since 2008 and similarly Web Technologies and we have WPT to reach interop behavior and if there would have been still any issue, there would have been any future bug report.

There is no point in keeping this old bug without any testcase from 2008 and one which would be difficult to replicate. So I am going to mark this as "RESOLVED WONTFIX".

Please reopen if it is still happening and have reproduce testcase.
