After version of iOS 16.1 this issue got much worse. 
If you have more than 6-7 open tabs, Safari hangs for 10-15 seconds each operation (click, press button, expand, etc) making the web page UNUSABLE.
Tested on:
IPad Air
IPad Pro 4th gen
iPhone 13
IPhone 14
