These are the ancestor tree walks I've found that need thinking about in terms of top layer:

    setAncestorChainHasSelfPaintingLayerDescendant
    setAncestorChainHasVisibleDescendant

    SVGRenderingContext::calculateTransformationToOutermostCoordinateSystem

    enclosingScrollableLayer()

    RenderElement::moveLayers
    RenderElement::findNextLayer

    traverseAncestorLayers
    enclosingFragmentedFlowAncestor
