There's W3C Badging API that you can read about here and there:

It already works on some platforms. I particularly checked Windows, Android, but unfortunately it doesn't work on iOS (either iPhone or iPad). There are some screenshot of how it works:

PWAs are quite cool thing, please support it and implement Badge API. As soon as it's there, we can notify about it here:

So that will be accordingly added to docs of W3C and else. Thx!
