I like this idea!

Maybe also just a Option+Click or Shift+Click to delete elements to avoid the keyboard all-together while you're already using the mouse. On iOS where this is being driven by touch, it could still work if you hold Option on the Mac, but perhaps a bit non-obvious. Maybe an Option+Click on the element search button itself activates a delete mode instead of just the search mode (for remote inspection).
