Actually, the original content had "HiraKana, 'Hiragino Kaku Gothic ProN'" which means were were falling back to Hiragino Kaku Gothic ProN, except that fallback font doesn't have font-variant-east-asian: proportional-width enabled, so it is treated as a distinct font.
