I know the SIGABRT happens in Cairo but the comment at:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78787#c6

Suggests that it is not a bug, but an error from the code using cairo (I cannot see how an assert in private API can be so, but I haven't digged).
