Bug ID: 165661
Summary: [Cocoa] Validation message for required checkbox
doesnât conform the the Apple Style Guide
Classification: Unclassified
Product: WebKit
Version: Other
Hardware: Unspecified
OS: Unspecified
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P2
Component: Forms
Assignee: webkit-unassigned at lists.webkit.org
Reporter: mitz at webkit.org
CC: cdumez at apple.com
The form validation message for a required checkbox says âCheck this boxâ. The Apple Style Guide says not to use âcheckâ as a verb âwhen you mean the action of clicking a checkbox to select an optionâ. It also says âYou select or deselect a checkboxâ. It goes on to give this as an example of correct usage: âSelect the âObject causes wrapâ checkboxâ.
So at least on Apple platforms, I think the validation message should be âSelect this checkboxâ instead of âCheck this boxâ.
