Unfortunately, I still can't place the caret between adjacent elements, so there's still at least one more subpart to this bug.  I'll keep pounding on it.

Also, there's a new block of code in RenderBox.cpp that needs to be nested under the enclosing if (box) to avoid a crash in the inspector.  I'll update the patch with that fix after I get the caret-between-elements issue fixed.
