Yes, you need a patched make in order to make a parallel build of
v2.3.3.

I tried with make 3.81 and make 3.82 and it fails with both due to
different reasons, but the patched version of make from jhbuild works
fine.

I had to disable the parallel build for the Debian release of 2.3.3.
