Bug is still present on Safari 7.0 (9537.71) and Chrome 31.0.1650.63.
On StackOverflow a workaround for this bug has been posted. The code parameter can be specified as an attribute of the object tag instead of a separate param tag. Then this unnecessary GET request is not send.
