so, when I did all the work moving from Lucid to Precise, I didn't see a lot of diffs that looked like they were the result of changes to antialiasing algorithms, so I suspect this is less useful for Linux.

Also, given the "custom freetype" approach, this is also less needed on Linux.

So, I'm retitling this to mac-only for now.
