After much internal discussion, Collabora has decided maintaining the clutter AC backend upstream is not really worth it any more at this point. We will deal with customer needs in our private branch as required, and WebKitGTK+ doesn't have much to gain from it as things stand currently - even if Clutter does get merged at some point, it will need to have a solution for using OpenGL in parallel with cogl. Redirecting resources for improving WebKitGTK+ instead makes more sense, so that's what we'll try to do. For those reasons we are proposing complete removal of the clutter AC backend. The cairo texmap backend is also being deemed deprecated right now, so this patch also removes it to allow complete removal of backend selection. Some of the infrastructure for supporting more than one backend still makes sense given we will likely want to have a Wayland backend soon, hopefully runtime-selectable.
