Note that the history in http://test-results.appspot.com/dashboards/flakiness_dashboard.html#tests=fast%2Ftext%2Finternational%2Fspaces-combined-in-vertical-text.html&showExpectations=true is misleading...

The test went from PASS to TEXT on most platforms, but not as a result of some code change; rather, that was caused by the deletion of "what appears to be a bad baseline for the fast/text test" in http://trac.webkit.org/changeset/112588/

The test went from TEXT to CRASH on Linux-Debug as a result of http://crrev.com/129689 ("Properly crash when triggering an ASSERT() in debug DRT").  Hence Dirk's test_expectations change in http://trac.webkit.org/changeset/112588/

The crash on Linux-Debug, and text diffs on other platforms, are completely separate issues.
