For a couple of days now, when I am in Gmail, chatting with a contact, and I click the Gmail link to "pop out" the conversation into its own little window, everything breaks. The behaviors I observe upon clicking 'pop-out' are:

- the new chat window opens, but before it can be populated with anything...
- ... my Gmail Inbox - the main, big window - reloads
- the result is that the pop-out window remains blank, and whatever chat conversation I was having disappears and is lost (well, thankfully if I go back to a more stable browser (i.e., non-Webkit Safari), my chat contents were saved by Google and I can continue the conversation).

Something happened recently in the Webkit code that handles the Gmail chat pop-out window behavior.
