Looks like this is what XSLT standard requires, and Firefox is "wrong" here.
The spec requirement makes little sense though, so perhaps HTML should override that. I filed <https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=18460> for sanity, although that's something that would be hard for us to implement without forking libxslt or switching to another implementation.
