One day Safari and OpenOffice would work, next day they would not, day after that they would work, couple of days later they would not. This synchronised on again off again functioning is obviously due to something they both have in common, which is likely WebKit. NOTE I never said it was caused by downloading a nightly build of WebKit, after problem started I tried such a download but there was no way to install, so basically that had no effect.
SOLUTION Move all documents to Google Docs, revert for browsing to Internet Explorer, when Windows Explorer stops responding allow report to be sent to Microsoft. Longer term probably delete Safari and OpenOffice.
