Here is what I found so far (after 3 days of debugging):

In inspector-test.js, layoutTestController.evaluateInWebInspector starts some kind of asyncron execution of function runTestInFrontend(), which does not happen for styles-disable-then-delete.html and styles-url-linkify.html in some unknown circumstances. The question now: why does it fail to start the script execution?
