I can confirm this with Safari 5.0.2 and Chrome 6.0.472.63 on Windows XP.
How to reproduce: go to Google Reader (you'll need an account, and some feeds). On the bottom part of the page look for the "Previous Item" / "Next Item" buttons. Click on any of them in rapid succession, look at selected areas.

The only workaround seems to be setting -webkit-user-select:none; really up in the DOM (<body>), causing the user to be unable to select text areas.
