actual rendering on Leopard: http://build.chromium.org/f/chromium/layout_test_results/webkit-rel-mac-webkit-org/results/layout-test-results/fast/text/international/vertical-text-glyph-test-actual.png (from a Chromium Mac build but Safari Mac looks the same way).

Notice that the glyphs of 'string' are overlapping each other in the Complex text path part of the test.
