I'm looking at the backed up system.log files (system.log.0.bz2) and on march
1st the following error was written to the console 14 times (at different times
of the day):

Mar  1 15:55:57 MacBook com.apple.WebKit.PluginAgent[59664]: Debugger() was
called!

I've also attached a .crash file of the webkit plugin host, that was written on
2-27-10. Not sure how long this bug goes back, since I don't view flash videos
every day, but it may be realated. 

There was no missing plugin symbol, the page casually finished loading, leaving
a space for the video, but not displaying any of the playback buttons or
border. Just whatever the background color was.
