The downside is that trees that use the git repository as a base will all be
broken, and their current state will have to be recreated somehow. For
instance, Debian uses the git repository to maintain webkitgtk packages, and we
gtk+ porters maintain a git repository to track our "stable" branch.

It'll be a pain for me if this is done, but I guess we'll survive.
