So, maybe calling this a leak is a misnomer.
It appears to be more like an odd use of caching.

I ran an additional test and it took 16 reloads before it
stopped consuming additional memory.  After 16 reloads
it took up 1.6GB of RPRVT and 3.9GB of virtual memory.

The MBP tested has 4GB of memory.
