I investigated a bit more and the funny is:

with
<link rel="stylesheet" href="ui/default/slides.css" type="text/css"
media="projection" id="slideProj" />
the rendering works but not

<style type="text/css" media="projection">
:
:
</style>

Guess a smaller testcase is needed?
