Thank you for the suggestion. That is a great idea !

 Do you think this issue has to be brought up more upstream (std-group) than
webkit before implementing it in the webkit? 

For my reference,
http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-fonts/#font-reference-the-src-descriptor enumerates
the values that can be put in optional format param of src descriptor. They're
opentype, truetype, truetype-aat,  embedded-opentype, and svg.
