Summary: Support search from the address bar
           Product: WebKit
           Version: 528+ (Nightly build)
          Platform: Macintosh
        OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.5
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: Enhancement
          Priority: P2
         Component: New Bugs
        AssignedTo: webkit-unassigned at lists.webkit.org
        ReportedBy: me at aaronsw.com

The new Safari 4 is blindingly fast -- so fast that minor slowdowns become
quite grating. The most annoying is the inability to search from the address
bar. In products like Camino you can do this by adding bookmarks with %s's in
them and then using that as a prefix. But I can understand that Safari may not
want to implement this as it's not the most userfriendly solution. So can I
propose this feature:

First, detect and remember OpenSearch support on sites, along the same way
favicons are remembered.

So when you type something like "imdb" into the address bar, right now it has
top hit as "Internet Movie Database". Provide an option under that for "Search
'Internet Movie Database'". Selecting that will allow the user to type a search
query, which will be sent using the OpenSearch URL template syntax.

Voila.
