I think I got a sample of the bad behavior from a debug build. The behavior was
slightly different though, so I'm not 100% sure it's the same issue. When
typing, it didn't totally freeze up, letters kept popping in very slowly. But
it did have the same behavior of getting better when I hit enter and then
backspace.
