The W3C has published a working draft of a "File API", available here:
http://www.w3.org/TR/FileAPI/  (current draft link I'm looking at:
http://www.w3.org/TR/2009/WD-FileAPI-20091117/ ).  Time to start looking at a
WebKit implementation!
