I suspect the way to render the text when dimension are not specified would be
to either display to fit the text, if room is available, or truncate the text
and fit in ajoining area if room is not available.

We would have to see what the other browsers do and what the specification
suggests. At least, if the other browsers are consistent amongst themselves,
then we should aim to follow their lead.
