answers review comments.  

ok explanation for DATAGRID skip is in previous comment: summary - too much
knock-on effect / consequences / increase in workload.  i made JS the default
so that it was not necessary to modify GNUmakefile.am.  necessary modifications
to GNUmakefile.am now included.
