This behavior is deliberate.  The assumption is that because the generic
monospace family was listed that the monospace size should be used.  After all
the font in front is in fact a monospace font.  It's not a bug in the sense
that it was a deliberate design decision on my part.  Might be worth revisiting
if it's causing incompatibilities though.
