I think the bug is incorrectly--and too generally--titled. The issue appears to
be only when the RLE is typed as the first character in an empty element. In
that case, the next character that is typed replaces the RLE. In other cases
(RLE typed in a non-empty element), the RLE persists. At any rate, RLE, LRE and
PDF are respected when they are present. The issue here is that the typing
operation removes them.
