Summary: js links and js bookmarklets that spawn windows,
function incorrectly in safari 4 beta
Product: WebKit
Version: 528+ (Nightly build)
Platform: Macintosh Intel
URL: http://carboxymoron.com/2009/02/26/safari-4/#comment-474
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.4
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: Normal
Priority: P3
Component: WebCore JavaScript
AssignedTo: webkit-unassigned at lists.webkit.org
ReportedBy: arbonarbot at gmail.com
in the safari 4 public beta, when the preference 'TargetedClicksCreateTabs' is
set to 'true', javascript bookmarklets which create new windows (more
specifically, sized windows) either open up in new tabs or don't function at
all. this behaviour is highly undesirable and incorrect.
it also appears to be a regression, as in safari 3.x versions, when the
aforementioned preference was set to true, js bookmarklets AND links which
opened new windows *with a specified window size* [and such] were not
redirected to new tabs and worked correctly. in safari 4 it seems that with
this preference set to true, ALL new window calls are redirected to new tabs.
this has been occurring on both my tiger machine and my leopard box, by the
way. i have had to disable the setting altogether, which makes using safari...
kind of a pain. the preference is essentially supposed to implement a veritable
"single window mode" in safari, which greatly simplifies the browsing
experience, when it worked correctly in 3.x versions. please fix.
notes: the url is just one example of many reports on this issue, just google
around and you'll find more.
